The Scuola Edile di Siena, in collaboration with the local branch of the INAL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work) and UNISTRASI (University for Foreigners in Siena), have been working together for some time to organise Italian language courses for foreigners working in local companies or about to enter the world of work. The 3 organisations signed a protocol in 2022 to finance 4 courses of 60 hours each to be held between 2023 and 2024.

The initiative offered around 50 immigrants the opportunity to attend a free Italian language and culture course, with the aim of integrating them into local companies and spreading the culture of prevention and safety at work by providing participants with the necessary tools to use and understand the Italian language in different situations, both in the workplace and in social life.

The courses are designed to enable participants to reach level A2 of linguistic and communicative competence in Italian, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

At the end of each course, students were able to take the free CILS A2 “Integration in Italy” exam, which is valid for obtaining a long-term residence permit.

The 4th edition will end on 3rd February next. In view of the excellent results obtained, and with a view to continuing a fruitful collaboration for the integration of migrants into the social and economic fabric of the area, the Scuola Edile will take steps to renew the protocol with INAIL and the University for Foreigners and continue this initiative, which is integrated with the school’s other activities aimed at training the unemployed and updating workers in the entire construction sector.
