In line with the philosophy of our project “Culture, Craft & Citizenship,” we identified a recent initiative from the Fédération des Acteurs de la Solidarité (FAS), in France, that strongly resonates with our approach. The National Culture Day and the accompanying “Culture and Solidarity” survey highlight how cultural rights, creative practices and access to cultural life can play a decisive role in supporting dignity, inclusion and social participation—especially for people facing situations of exclusion.
The FAS initiative underlines several key challenges: the need to balance urgent social missions with long-term cultural projects, the lack of dedicated funding and time, and the importance of legitimizing cultural action within social structures. At the same time, it showcases a great diversity of innovative practices and reaffirms the importance of building a true cultural democracy, where every person can actively participate and contribute.
Because these findings mirror the ambitions of Culture, Craft & Citizenship we wanted to share this inspiring and highly relevant initiative. Just like the FAS, our project aims to provide learners with the cultural, professional and civic foundations they need to fully embrace their future roles, supporting empowerment, autonomy and a stronger sense of belonging.
